The New Look of Womens' Physique 2011

In the past 5 years or so, there has been a change in the womens' Figure divison in physique competition. Gone are the days of athletic and strong looking bodies; the new thing is to be ripped and depleted-looking.

What's so different? Well, my friends, it seems the bodybuilding drugs, which have always been around, are making their way further and further with the women's Figure division ... making it more like a bodybuilding division. So much so that there is now a NEW division called WOMEN'S PHYSIQUE, which allows the women to be bigger and more shredded than a figure competitor, yet not as big as a female bodybuilder. What's the difference? Well ...

This is how Monica Brant looked a few years ago in Figure:

Old school figure. Very natural and healthy looking.

This is Monica now:

Way different, right? Now what caused this whole change? I used to think it was diet, training, and maybe a little T3 or clenbuterol ... until I read what a LOCAL - not even a National or Pro - Figure competitor was taking for a show.

From RX Muscle
Last show: Winny 10-20 mg daily, Clen 20 mg daily, Hgh 2 iu daily.
Current stats: 33 yrs old, 5'5, 128lbs.
Needs: Has great overall symmetry, so she could use a little size equally everywhere. Was pretty lean last show but could come in a tad tighter.
From recent advice and at 20+ weeks out, we are thinking stack Anavar + Winny. Can you run two orals at fem chem dosing that long? Would it not be better to run Winny injectable? Or best to run Anavar only now, tapering up dose from 10 to 20mg daily, then switch to Winny 6-8 weeks out?
We don't want to run any Test. Are national level figure competitors running Deca for size or Primo? Is Primo even cost effective?
When would you add Clen 8-12 weeks out? Is T4 worth it when you get into pretty good shape without, for figure? Would Nolvadex be better pre comp prep and at what dosing, 10-20mg daily?"
What? Growth Hormone? Winstrol? Talking about using testosterone and anti-estrogen drugs? For real? And this isn't even a top level competitor?

Now I'm not saying all women who compete use drugs! I'm not saying that at all. But can you see a difference in not only the body, but in the faces and waists of these women?

This is the Ms. Fitness Olympia winner! Notice her face, how wide her waist is and the deep  separations in her legs?

This is 2009 Ms Figure Olympia, Notice her face: it looks like a woman's face, and her body is curvy and fit.

Here is a top 5 lineup of a Pro Figure Competition. Notice they look fit but not too big or too lean?
I've been around the industry for a long time and knew drugs were being used, but had no idea it was to the extent I'm seeing now. And the kicker is that most of these girls don't even win!

Now I'm not saying I condone drugs, nor am I saying that it's not ok to use them. It's a personal choice and everyone has to make that choice for themselves. But I think to the extent that some of these drugs are being used, is NOT OK.

I read how one girl only does cardio 2 x per week and she eats 200 grams of carbs, and she still gets in shape ... yeah, with all the drugs she is on, she should be able to get in shape with such little effort. BUT how bout this radical idea: stop the drugs, actually tighten up on the diet, find that thing ... you know, it's called a treadmill, and get to work! It's very discouraging to women who compete natural and have to go zero carbs and do 2 cardio sessions a day to read how another girl doesn't do any cardio, and posts pictures on Twitter of these great foods she get to eat. I even recall one women eating TEDDY GRAHAMS. But they forget to tell these women who are busting their asses about the drugs they use.

I'm glad the new Womens' Physique Division is here, and am looking forward to the changes all around this year.

  1. There is no real subsitute for being an athlete. These people may look like one, but they aren't. Athletes train and work and constantly work at it. You just can't fake true athleticism.

  2. Great article. Like the way you used the photos to show us the radical differences between a natural and chemically enhanced woman bodybuilder. No body does this! This is your genre: deconstructing the bodybuilder's physique. Still remember the X-frame article u did at M3. Bravo amigo!

  3. Most pro figure/fitness competitors use drugs. They may not be steroids, but they are drugs that all or nearly all natural organizations ban.

Other than that, I agree with everything you wrote. You should post this on some of the major forums!

  4. Very misleading article! Get two pictures of Monica on stage then make a proper comparison
