Coming Back From an Injury

Sometimes things happen that we can't control. One day you're feeling great and on track, looking and feeling better than ever, and one misplaced step - one slip - and you're set back weeks or maybe months. A small thing suddenly becomes a BIG thing, and your fitness goals suffer setbacks. So what is one to do?

BS3 Training preaches flexibility in your training and improvisation to get the job done. But don't worry! You can get right back to where you were in record time. Just don't feel down and don't give up!

Erin's Story
Erin has been training with me off and on for several years - when her hectic schedule allowed it. Late last year, she was having some wrist issues and we had to revamp some exercises, but we got it done. She was just training upper body with me, when I received a text from her around Christmas. She was skiing and fell and broke her leg.

Ok, now what? Most people would sit around, and eat a little bit, and feel sorry for themselves. But not Erin! Her first thought was "How can I still train and keep myself healthy, maintain my physique, and heal faster?"

It was time to revamp her training again! She trained her upper body for the next 7 or 8 weeks, restructured her diet in order to not gain fat during that time, and at the end of 8 weeks, she was happy with how her upper body looked!

So now it was time to get back to legs. Yesterday, she came in for her first real leg workout. There were a few obstacles to get past, and we took about 30 minutes of warming up and stretching her tendons out. By the end of the session, she was squatting full squats with weights and had no pain! It just took a different approach to work around her injury, and she was right back with a full range of motion.

Erin at the end of the session SQUATTING!

For those of you who think it's hopeless or down because you feel you have such a long way to go in order to get back to where you were before an injury (or anything else life throws at you), remember to never give up! Once you have the knowledge to change your body, you have that knowledge forever. You can always get better! It is just as fun and exiting getting to your best ever the first, second, or even third or more times. Using your knowledge to transform your body never gets old!
